Autodesk Inventory Tool includes an easy-to-use Windows client that is in the same folder as AIT and is named AITVIEWER.exe.  Running the AIT Windows Client will display the contents of the DataStore.xml file generated by AIT, showing the list of devices discovered and scanned along with their details.  Simply double-click the shortcut on your desktop to open the viewer.

At the top, it will display a variety of categories:

  • The total number of devices discovered
  • Number of devices successfully scanned
  • Number of devices that failed to be scanned
  • Number of devices that have Autodesk Software installs
  • Number of devices that have Autodesk Serial Numbers
  • Number of devices that have Autodesk Software Log
  • Number of devices that have errors
  • Number of devices that have Autodesk Last Used data

Clicking on one of these numbers will filter the device list to show just those devices. For example, clicking on Not Scanned will filter the device list showing the devices where there was an error connecting to the device, showing the error message that was encountered while scanning the device:

Selecting a device in the device list will show the details of the device in the panels below, including the hardware details, Autodesk Installed Software, Autodesk Serial Numbers and Autodesk Software Log:

The Search for Device option can be used to search for devices by simply entering a search term in the Search for Device textbox and clicking the Search button. The number of devices found containing the search term will be displayed next to the search button, and those devices will be displayed in the devices grid. For example, to find all laptops, enter laptop and click Search (the search is case insensitive):

The attributes that are searched for the search term are:

  • Name
  • Discovery Name
  • User
  • Serial Number
  • Domain
  • Operating System
  • Make
  • Model
  • Type
  • Class
  • IP Address
